external waterproofing

WHAT IS IT?

Water flooding and leaking is a pretty common problem for homeowners, it can be very troublesome and cost a lot of money in damage and furniture replacement. Exterior waterproofing is a solution, and usually the most effective, offered by MRH Waterproofing to protect your basement from further leaking or to prevent the problem altogether.

It involves digging a trench around the perimeter of the house to expose the foundation wall, and fixing any cracks that are usually the culprit of the water leak. The wall is then thoroughly sealed with commercial grade materials, and a drain is set in place to divert any water that might puddle near the house.

This option is usually the most recommended by us as it can save you a lot of problems in the future, but if there is a problem accessing the perimeter of the house and excavation is not an option, we also offer other alternatives.

THE PROCESS

  • A trench is dug around the house until the whole foundation wall is exposed and cleaned

  • The wall is inspected for cracks or pinhole damage. This is then repaired and covered with a thick layer of cement

  • We apply the first layer of a liquid rubberized waterproofing sealant (Hydro-guard)

  • A mesh is applied over this to reinforce the coat and prep for the next layer

  • Second coat of Hydro-guard is applied to the wall

  • A waterproofing drainage membrane is fastened onto the wall with special concrete nails and washers.

  • Finally, a weeping tile is placed at the bottom of the trench to drain the water away from the house

  • All of this is covered with a thick layer of gravel and the soil is neatly placed back in place.

  • The soil is then compacted and the surrounding area is cleaned.
